Our Vision

In the long term, our vision is to develop the organisation into a leading think tank dedicated to advancing policy research on Korea’s socio-political and economic developments, its bilateral relations with India, and the increasing importance of the Korean peninsula in the evolving global geopolitical landscape.

Korea Research Circle aims to address the gaps in Indian scholarship on Korean affairs.

As a student-led non-profit organisation, KRC is dedicated to conducting research, facilitating dialogue, and generating discourse, which together contributes to the growing field of Korean studies as well as the broader scholarship on East Asia.

We believe that fostering collaboration and building networks between scholars from Korea and India will enhance mutual understanding and knowledge of both nations within their respective contexts.

Co-Founder

Torunika Roy

Torunika Roy is a PhD Scholar in the Korean Division at the Centre for East Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research focuses on gender issues, low fertility rates in South Korea, society and culture, domestic politics, and nuclear issues in the region.

Priyanka Yadav

Priyanka Yadav is a PhD Scholar in the Korean Division at the Centre for East Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research focuses on Korea and the Indo-Pacific, India-Korea relations, foreign policy of Korea and geopolitics of East Asia.

Nitin Rakesh

Nitin Rakesh is a PhD Scholar in the Korean Division from the Centre for the East Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. His research focuses on the Political Economy of Korean, Korea- India Trade, East Asia, Political Thought and Theoretical Perspectives of International Relations.

Arya Prasad

Arya Prasad is a PhD Scholar in the Korean Division at the Centre for East Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Her research concentrates on Internationalization of Higher Eduaction, Soft Power, International student migration, Hallyu and Society of South Korea.

Akshat Mayne

Akshat Mayne is a PhD scholar at the Japanese Division, Centre for East Asian Studies, School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. His doctoral research focuses on the evolution of Japan-Taiwan relations in the post-Cold War era, with an emphasis on the intersection of Japanese and Taiwanese domestic politics, security cooperation and foreign policies.

Poornima Nair

Poornima holds a Master's in East Asian Studies from the Department of East Asian Studies, University of Delhi. She is the recipient of the Mitsubishi Corporation India Scholarship and was also awarded the Japan Foundation Fellowship for Aspiring Scholars in Japanese Studies 2023-24. Poornima is interested in studying the intersections of disease, environment and nation building.

Avdesh Pathak

He is a post-graduate in East Asian studies programme from the University of Delhi. His research focuses on China's foreign policy and Navy modernisation.

Aanchal Sinha

Aanchal is a skilled Korean language expert with extensive experience in teaching, translation, and language assessment. In addition to her language work, she has conducted research on Korea's politics and foreign policy, focusing on its strategic dynamics and international relations. Aanchal holds a Master’s degree in East Asian Studies from Delhi University. She continues to deepen her knowledge of Korea, combining her passion for the language with a keen interest in its political and cultural landscape.

Sumaiya Chauhan

Sumaiya Chauhan is a postgraduate from Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) in Delhi with a deep interest in Korean culture and literature. Her work explores various aspects of Korean history, literature, and feminist movements. Sumaiya is passionate about examining the role of women in literature, the evolution of cultural narratives, and the impact of historical contexts on creative expression, blending academic research with innovative insights. She is interested in folktale and myth in Korean literary works.

Helina Josi J

A postgraduate scholar in International Relations interested in geopolitics with regards to the Korean Peninsula and the wider Asian region. Having undertaken research projects during the course of study, the research areas covered include geopolitics, defense policy, reunification of the Korean Peninsula, climate change, migration, and human rights (more focus on refugees). Interested in the Korean Language and Culture, and want to research the interplay of them in the Korean policies. She is interested in culture, defense, reunification, and foreign policy.

Divyanshi Gaur

Divyanshi Gaur, a Masters graduate student in Communication and Journalism from Mumbai University, currently pursuing Korean language diploma at Delhi University. She worked for Korea.net as an honorary reporter and researched on India-Korea relations, focusing on Socio-political roles of women and the impact of Korean media on Indian youth identity for language learning.

Vidhi Poonia

Vidhi Poonia is a graduate student in East Asian Studies with specialisation in Korean Studies, from Delhi University. Her research focuses on Korean homosexuality, history, society and culture.
